License Keys
Your license key activates Petal Metrics and links it to your subscription.
License Key Format
License keys follow this format:
PETAL-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Example: PETAL-HAJN-S5J7-ZUZZ-8VWN
Finding Your License Key
- Sign in at petal.tech/account
- Navigate to Downloads
- Your license key is displayed under License Information
You can click to copy the key or toggle visibility.
How Licensing Works

- Subscribe: When you subscribe, a license key is automatically generated
- Sign In: Sign in to Petal Metrics with your account credentials
- Activate: Your license is automatically validated and activated
- Use: Full access to features based on your plan
License and Subscription
Your license key is tied to your subscription:

License Validation
Petal Metrics validates your license:
- On startup: Checks license status
- Periodically: Re-validates every 12 hours
- On network reconnect: After coming back online
Offline Usage
You can use Petal Metrics offline with limitations:
- License remains valid for up to 12 hours offline
- Subscription cache valid for up to 24 hours offline
- After these periods, internet connection is required
Security
Keep Your License Key Private
- Don't share your license key publicly
- Don't post it in forums or social media
- Each key is tied to your account and payment method
What Happens If Shared?
If your license key is used on unauthorized devices:
- Concurrent usage is detected via heartbeat monitoring
- Your account may be flagged for review
- Subscription could be suspended for violation of terms
Multiple Licenses
Currently, each account has one license key. If you need multiple licenses (e.g., for a team):
- Each team member needs their own account and subscription
- Contact support@petal.tech for volume licensing inquiries
Troubleshooting
"License not found"
- Ensure you have an active subscription
- Sign out and sign back in
- Check your subscription status at petal.tech/account
"License expired"
- Your subscription may have ended
- Check payment status
- Resubscribe to restore access
"License already activated"
- You've reached your device activation limit
- Revoke an existing device at petal.tech/account/downloads
- Then sign in on your new device
