Installing Petal Metrics

This guide walks you through downloading and installing Petal Metrics on your computer.

System Requirements

All platforms require:

  • Bluetooth 4.0+ (BLE) support
  • 4 GB RAM minimum
  • 100 MB disk space

Download

  1. Log in to your account at petal.tech/account
  2. Navigate to Downloads
  3. Click the download button for your operating system
Subscription Required

You must have an active subscription to download Petal Metrics. View pricing

Installation by Platform

Windows

  1. Run the downloaded .exe installer
  2. Follow the installation wizard
  3. Choose installation location (default: C:\Program Files\Petal Metrics)
  4. Click Install
  5. Launch from Start Menu or desktop shortcut

macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  2. Drag Petal Metrics to your Applications folder
  3. On first launch, right-click and select Open to bypass Gatekeeper
  4. Click Open in the security dialog
Apple Silicon

The macOS installer includes native Apple Silicon support for best performance on M1/M2/M3 Macs.

Linux

  1. Install the .deb package:
    sudo dpkg -i petal-metrics_1.0.0_amd64.deb
  2. If there are dependency errors:
    sudo apt-get install -f
  3. Launch from your application menu or run petal-metrics in terminal

First Launch

When you first launch Petal Metrics, you'll need to sign in and select a subscription plan.

Step 1: Sign In

Choose one of the following sign-in methods:

Email/Password

  1. Enter your email address
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click Sign In
  1. Click Continue with GitHub
  2. You'll see a device code (e.g., ABCD-1234)
  3. Click Copy Code to copy it to your clipboard
  4. Click Open GitHub or visit github.com/login/device
  5. Paste the code and click Continue
  6. Authorize Petal Metrics when prompted
  7. Return to the app - you'll be signed in automatically
Why GitHub?

GitHub login is faster and more secure - no password to remember, and you can revoke access anytime from your GitHub settings.

Step 2: Select a Plan

After signing in, if you don't have an active subscription, you'll see the plan selection screen:

  1. Click Subscribe on your preferred plan
  2. Complete payment on petal.tech
  3. Return to the app - your subscription activates automatically

Already have a subscription? The app will detect it and take you directly to the main interface.

Step 3: Grant Permissions

On first use, allow Bluetooth access when prompted. This is required to connect to your Muse headband.

You're now ready to connect your Muse headband!

Settings Persistence

Your streaming and recording settings (OSC, LSL, Webhook, filters, output directory) are automatically saved and restored when you sign in again.

Troubleshooting Installation

Windows: "Windows protected your PC"

Click More infoRun anyway. The app is signed but may trigger SmartScreen on first run.

macOS: "App is damaged and can't be opened"

Open Terminal and run:

xattr -cr /Applications/Petal\ Metrics.app

Linux: Missing dependencies

sudo apt-get install libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 libgtk-3-0
