Migration (Legacy Customers)
Do I need to create a new account?
If you're a legacy customer, an account has been created for you using your original order email. Use "Forgot Password" at petal.tech/login to set your password.
Will my old API key still work?
Yes, if you had an API Developer subscription. During the 30-day grace period (until February 27, 2026), your key works normally. After that, you need an active subscription at petal.tech/pricing.
What happens to my Metrics 0.5.3 license?
Nothing changes. Metrics 0.5.3 continues to work as it always has. Only Metrics 1.0+ requires a subscription.
Which plan do I need for API access?
Standard ($39.99/mo) or Advanced ($79.99/mo). The Basic plan does not include API access.
I'm getting SUBSCRIPTION_EXPIRED but I just subscribed

What Muse headbands are supported?
Petal Metrics supports:
- Muse 2 - EEG, accelerometer, gyroscope
- Muse S - EEG, accelerometer, gyroscope, PPG (heart rate)
- Muse S (Gen 2) - Same as Muse S
Original Muse (2014) is not supported as it uses a different protocol.
What operating systems are supported?
- Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
- macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later (Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Linux Ubuntu 22.04 or equivalent (64-bit)
Is there a mobile app?
No, Petal Metrics is a desktop application only. For mobile Muse apps, see the official Muse app or third-party alternatives.
Can I use multiple Muse headbands simultaneously?
Currently, Petal Metrics supports one connected Muse at a time.
Subscription & Billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Go to petal.tech/account/subscription
- Click Cancel Subscription
- Confirm cancellation
Your access continues until the end of your paid period.
Do you offer refunds?
We offer refunds within 7 days of purchase if you haven't used the software. Contact support@petal.tech.
Can I switch between plans?
Yes! Upgrade anytime with prorated billing. Downgrade at the end of your current period.
Do you offer student/academic discounts?
Contact support@petal.tech with your academic credentials for information about educational pricing.
Is there a free trial?
We don't currently offer a free trial. However, we do offer a 7-day refund policy.

What's the difference between OSC, LSL, and Webhook?

Can I record data while streaming?
Yes! All output methods (CSV, OSC, LSL, Webhook) can run simultaneously.
What sample rates are supported?
- EEG: 256 Hz (fixed by Muse hardware)
- Accelerometer: 52 Hz
- Gyroscope: 52 Hz
- PPG: 64 Hz (Muse S only)
Can I filter the EEG data?
Signal filtering is available on the Advanced plan ($79.99/mo). This includes bandpass filters, notch filters, and artifact rejection. Basic and Standard plans receive raw data.
What's the latency of the streaming?
- OSC/LSL: ~10-20ms typical (local)
- Webhook: ~50-200ms typical (depends on network/server)
Technical
How is my device ID generated?
Device IDs are generated from hardware identifiers (CPU, network adapter, disk) to uniquely identify your computer. This prevents unauthorized sharing of accounts.
Does Petal Metrics work offline?
Yes, with limitations:
- Must have validated within the last 24 hours (subscription) or 12 hours (license)
- After that, internet connection is required to continue
Where is my data stored?
- CSV files: In the folder you select
- Streamed data: Sent directly to your chosen destination
- We don't store your Muse data on our servers
Is my data encrypted?
- In transit: All API calls use HTTPS
- At rest: Local cache files are encrypted with your device-specific key
What ports does Petal Metrics use?
- OSC: Configurable (default 5000, UDP)
- LSL: 16571-16600 (TCP/UDP)
- Webhook: Outbound HTTPS (443)

How do I delete my account?
Contact support@petal.tech to request account deletion. Active subscriptions must be canceled first.
