Subscription & License Activation

Petal Metrics requires an active subscription and license to use. This guide explains how to subscribe and activate your license.

Choosing a Plan​

Visit petal.tech/pricing to view available plans:

Subscribing​

From the Website​

  1. Go to petal.tech/pricing
  2. Click Get Started on your preferred plan
  3. Create an account or sign in:
    • Email/Password: Create a new account with your email
    • GitHub: Sign in with your GitHub account
  4. Enter payment details
  5. Complete checkout

Your license key is generated automatically and available in your account dashboard.

From the Desktop App​

  1. Launch Petal Metrics
  2. Sign in with email/password or GitHub
  3. On the plan selection screen, click Subscribe on your preferred plan
  4. Complete payment on the website that opens
  5. Return to the app - your subscription activates automatically

Signing In with GitHub​

GitHub login uses a secure "Device Flow" that doesn't require entering your GitHub password in the app:

  1. Click Continue with GitHub on the sign-in screen
  2. Copy the 8-character code shown (e.g., ABCD-1234)
  3. Visit github.com/login/device in your browser
  4. Paste the code and authorize Petal Metrics
  5. The app automatically detects authorization and signs you in

This is the same secure flow used by GitHub CLI and other trusted applications.

Feature Access by Plan​

Your subscription plan determines which features are available in the app:

Basic Plan ($14.99/mo)​

  • ✅ Real-time EEG, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and PPG visualization
  • ✅ OSC streaming to music/visual software
  • ✅ LSL streaming for research applications
  • ✅ Webhook streaming to web services

Standard Plan ($39.99/mo)​

Everything in Basic, plus:

  • ✅ CSV data export and recording
  • ✅ API access for custom integrations

Advanced Plan ($79.99/mo)​

Everything in Standard, plus:

  • ✅ Real-time signal filtering (bandpass and notch filters)
Locked Features

Features not included in your plan appear dimmed in the app with a lock icon. Upgrade your plan to unlock them.

License Activation​

Automatic Activation​

When you sign in to Petal Metrics with your account, your license is automatically activated on that device.

Manual Activation (if needed)​

  1. Open Petal Metrics
  2. Go to Settings → Account
  3. Sign in with your Petal account
  4. Your license will be validated and activated

Viewing Your License​

To view your license details:

  1. Go to petal.tech/account/downloads
  2. Your license key is displayed in format: PETAL-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
  3. View activation status and device list
Keep Your License Key Private

Your license key is tied to your account. Do not share it publicly.

Device Limits​

Each plan includes a limited number of device activations:

  • Basic: 1 device
  • Standard: 1 device
  • Advanced: 1 device

If you need to use Petal Metrics on a different device:

  1. Go to petal.tech/account/downloads
  2. Find the device you want to remove
  3. Click Revoke to deactivate that device
  4. Sign in on your new device to activate

Subscription Management​

Upgrading Your Plan​

  1. Go to petal.tech/account/subscription
  2. Click Change Plan
  3. Select your new plan
  4. Confirm the change

Upgrades take effect immediately. You'll be charged the prorated difference.

Canceling Your Subscription​

  1. Go to petal.tech/account/subscription
  2. Click Cancel Subscription
  3. Confirm cancellation

Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

Reactivating a Canceled Subscription​

If you cancel and later want to resubscribe:

  1. Go to petal.tech/pricing
  2. Choose a plan and subscribe
  3. Your previous license key will be reactivated

Offline Usage​

Petal Metrics requires periodic internet connection to verify your subscription:

  • Subscription verification: Every 24 hours
  • License validation: Every 12 hours

If you're offline longer than these periods, you'll need to connect to the internet to continue using the app.

Troubleshooting​

"License validation failed"​

  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify your subscription is active at petal.tech/account
  • Try signing out and back in

"Maximum devices reached"​
