To connect either a muse 1, 2, or S, you’ll first need to download the Metrics desktop application from petal.tech/downloads. Then, proceed with the installation process.
Following installation, turn on your muse device by pressing the power button. The LED indicator light should pulse in sequence.
Open the Petal Metrics application.
Click the Stream button to connect to the muse and stream data.
If the device successfully connects, two changes should occur:
Indicator LED
The LED on the muse headband will stop pulsing and remain lit.
Application Status Bar
The Status Bar should display Streaming, the device ID, and the battery level.
By default, the Stream button will open an EEG LSL stream on the local network. Alternatively, streams may be set to use the OSC protocol.
Note: at the moment, the muse S has an issue with this method where it may spontaneously disconnect in the middle of its stream - however, this event should be rare, and the auto-reconnection functionality should reconnect quickly. The muse 1 and 2 don’t have this issue but are a bit less comfortable to wear for longer periods of time.
